Sukhothai
Sukhothai, literally means "The Dawn of Happiness", is Thailand ancient capital and World Heritage site, established in 1238 as the capital of the first independent Thai Kingdom, located about 440 kilometres North of Bangkok. It is considered the cradle of Thai civilization because Thai alphabets, arts, culture and laws originated during this Sukhothai Era.
 
Local Attraction
Sukhothai Historical Park This park is located 12 kms.from town and restored by the Fine Arts Department in cooperation with UNESCO. Among the attractions are the remains of several major Buddhist temples, a complex system of canals and ponds to supply water to the city, and a lotus bud-shaped stupa typifying Sukhothai architecture.

Srisatchanalai Historical Park A satellite city during the Sukhothai period, Sri satchanalai is located on the bank of the Yom river East of the capital. Among the remains to be seen in the park are Wat Chang Lom, adorned with 39 stucco elephants buttresses, and Wat Chedi Chet Thaeo.

Phitsanulok Located about 60 kms from Sukhothai, Phitsanulok's Wat Phra Sri Rattana Mahathat contains one of Thailand's most beautiful and significant Buddha image, Phra Buddha Chinnaratwhich was casted in 1357.
